Venturi valves: Core enablers in the field of precision airflow control

In demanding environments such as laboratories, pharmaceutical cleanrooms, and semiconductor factories, stable and precise airflow control is crucial. Venturi valves, precision devices designed based on fluid mechanics principles, break through the limitations of traditional regulating valves with their unique structure and superior performance, becoming a core component of high-end airflow control systems and providing stable and efficient airflow solutions for demanding scenarios.


The core working principle of a Venturi valve stems from the Venturi effect: as gas flows through the constriction section of a pipe to the throat, the flow velocity increases and the static pressure decreases, creating a pressure difference across the valve core. Internally, it consists of a constriction section, throat, diffuser section, conical valve core, and precision spring. Requiring no external power, it stabilizes airflow through purely mechanical self-adaptive regulation. After the user sets the target airflow, fluctuations in pipe pressure will cause the valve core to automatically move and adjust the flow area, ensuring that the airflow remains stable at the preset value, unaffected by pipe network pressure.


Based on application requirements, Venturi valves are mainly divided into three categories: constant air volume valves focus on maintaining a constant air volume, suitable for scenarios such as biosafety laboratories; bistable valves can quickly switch between two preset air volumes, suitable for basic ventilation; and variable air volume valves (VAVs) paired with intelligent modules have a response time of less than 1 second, precisely adapting to dynamic airflow requirements such as fume hoods.


Compared to traditional regulating valves, Venturi valves offer significant advantages: within a static pressure fluctuation range of 150-750Pa, the air volume control error is only ±3%~±5%, possessing complete pressure independence; millisecond-level response can handle sudden operating conditions, ensuring personnel safety; a wide air volume control range with a regulation ratio of up to 20:1, adaptable to various scenarios; no easily damaged parts, self-cleaning effect, long maintenance cycle, service life exceeding 10 years, and energy savings of 18%-40% in variable air volume mode.


With these characteristics, Venturi valves are widely used in various fields: controlling ventilation and differential pressure in laboratories to prevent the leakage of harmful gases; ensuring pressure differential and cleanliness in cleanrooms in the pharmaceutical industry to improve product qualification rates; controlling clean environments and harmful gas emissions in industrial fields; and also for environmental and equipment temperature control in museums, data centers, and other locations.


Traditional control valves suffer from low precision, slow response, and frequent maintenance, making them only suitable for general scenarios. The high precision and fast response of Venturi valves make them the preferred choice for high-safety, high-precision applications. Although the initial cost is higher, their long-term safety, stability, and energy-saving benefits have led to their increasingly widespread application in critical industries.


With the development of smart buildings and Industry 4.0, Venturi valves are evolving towards digitalization and the Internet of Things (IoT). In the future, deep integration with building automation systems and AI algorithms will provide more intelligent and efficient environmental control solutions, with even broader application prospects.
