Clean bench: The core guarantee for localized purification

In cleanroom management, the clean bench (ultra-clean workbench) is a core local purification device. Through precise airflow control and high-efficiency filtration, it provides a dust-free and sterile operating space, compensating for shortcomings in the overall cleanroom environment and ensuring product quality and experimental reliability in industries such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and microelectronics. Its performance directly impacts the operational efficiency of the cleanroom. The clean bench constructs a localized clean environment through a filtration system and directional airflow. Its core is a closed loop of "filtration-airflow-positive pressure protection": clean air is first filtered to remove large particles, then subjected to HEPA/ULPA high-efficiency filtration (HEPA has a filtration efficiency of ≥99.97% for 0.3μm particles), and the operating area is swept by unidirectional laminar flow. Simultaneously, internal positive pressure prevents external contaminants from penetrating, maintaining the preset cleanliness level.

Clean benches are mainly divided into three categories to adapt to different cleanroom needs: Vertical laminar flow clean benches, with airflow from top to bottom, avoid human interference and protect samples, making them suitable for pharmaceutical preparation, biological cell culture, and other scenarios, and are the most widely used; Horizontal laminar flow clean benches, with airflow from back to front, are easy to operate and have low noise, suitable for non-hazardous operation scenarios such as microelectronic chip manufacturing; Biosafety clean benches integrate HEPA filtration and negative pressure systems, balancing sample and operator protection, and are only suitable for low-risk pathogen detection scenarios.

Clean benches can precisely protect the objects being handled, adapt synergistically to the cleanroom environment, and improve operational efficiency. They are widely used in cleanrooms in pharmaceuticals, biology, microelectronics and precision manufacturing, as well as high-end food and cosmetic production. When using them, it is necessary to follow the specifications: UV sterilization and alcohol disinfection must be performed before use; air vents should not be blocked during operation; and they should be cleaned and disinfected promptly after use. Regular cleaning, inspection, and replacement of filters and UV lamps are required daily, and professional performance verification should be conducted annually to ensure compliance with relevant standards.

When selecting a cleanroom, it is essential to match the cleanroom's class and the operational scenario, paying attention to core parameters such as filtration efficiency and airflow velocity, and ensuring proper installation. It is also important to note that clean benches cannot replace fume hoods and high-level biosafety cabinets. As a key component of localized purification in cleanrooms, clean benches provide a stable clean space for demanding operations. In the future, they will evolve towards intelligent and energy-efficient designs, deeply integrating with cleanrooms to provide robust cleanliness guarantees for the development of high-precision industries.
