Venturi valve: Core component for high-precision airflow control in cleanrooms

I. What is a Venturi Valve?

A Venturi valve is a self-operated variable air volume (VAV) regulating valve designed based on the Venturi effect. It achieves automatic airflow regulation through a spring, valve core, and pressure sensing structure within the valve body. It requires no external power supply or complex electrical control, and can automatically maintain a constant airflow output even when duct pressure fluctuates. It is a precision airflow control device for industrial ventilation and clean environments.

The most common mainstream model is the straight-through standard VAF Venturi valve, which supports customized sizes to adapt to different ventilation duct networks.

II. Core Structure and Materials The mainstream Venturi valve housing is made of three materials: galvanized steel, aluminum alloy, and stainless steel:

Aluminum alloy housing wall thickness: 1.52mm, lightweight and corrosion-resistant;

Stainless steel housing wall thickness: 1.02mm, corrosion-resistant and resistant to cleaning and disinfection, suitable for high-cleanliness environments such as pharmaceutical and biological laboratories;

The valve body can be customized with surface coatings to meet project anti-corrosion and cleanliness requirements.

The valve's diameter ranges from 200mm to 350mm (8"–14"), with non-standard sizes available for customization. Airflow ranges from 65 to 16000 CMH, catering to scenarios from low-volume laboratories to high-volume workshops.

III. Working Principle: Precise Airflow Control Without Electricity The Venturi valve operates using a self-regulating pressure compensation structure: when the air pressure within the duct changes, the internal sensing component detects the pressure in real time and automatically adjusts the valve opening to offset airflow fluctuations. Its airflow control accuracy reaches ±5% or ±17CMH (whichever is greater). Even with unstable system air pressure, it can still stably output the set airflow, offering higher adjustment accuracy and faster response compared to ordinary manual or electric dampers.

Simultaneously, the valve body employs an optimized flow channel design, resulting in significantly lower pressure loss than traditional regulating valves, reducing energy consumption in the ventilation system and making operation more energy-efficient.

IV. Main Features and Advantages

Self-powered and Power-free: Purely mechanical structure, no motor or sensor, stable operation even in power outages/no power supply environments, low failure rate;

High airflow control accuracy, precise flow adjustment, suitable for high-precision clean environments;

Flexible installation: Can be installed horizontally or vertically, flange/slot connection, compatible with conventional ventilation ducts;

Compact structure, small footprint, only requires 3-5 times the pipe diameter of straight pipe sections upstream and downstream to ensure measurement accuracy, simple maintenance;

Strong adaptability, supports customized sizes, materials, and surface treatments, and can pass CE, ISO, and other industry certifications.

V. Main Application Scenarios Venturi valves are widely used in scenarios with extremely high requirements for airflow stability and cleanliness:

Cleanroom FFU (Fan Filter Unit) ventilation systems

Pharmaceutical workshops, food purification workshops, electronic cleanrooms

Biosafety laboratories, animal laboratories, physical and chemical laboratories

HVAC duct branches, building VAV (Variable Air Volume) systems

Precision equipment rooms, constant temperature and humidity laboratories, and other high-precision airflow control environments

VI. Differences from Ordinary Air Valves

Ordinary manual/electric air valves rely on manual adjustment or electronic control. Airflow fluctuates easily when air pressure changes, resulting in poor accuracy and high energy consumption.

Venturi valves automatically compensate for air pressure, provide constant airflow output, require no power supply, have low energy consumption, and offer high precision. They are standard airflow control equipment in high-end clean ventilation systems.
