Common laboratory fume hood malfunctions and solutions

A laboratory fume hood is a device used in laboratories to protect laboratory personnel and the environment. Its function is to prevent toxic and harmful gases and dust generated during experiments from entering the room, while protecting personnel from these harmful substances. Laboratory fume hoods effectively control the concentration of harmful gases and dust in the laboratory, ensuring a safe and reliable working environment.

Laboratory fume hoods operate on the principle of negative pressure ventilation, expelling indoor pollutants to the outside through the ventilation system, maintaining a good ventilation environment. Laboratory fume hoods are generally divided into three types: vertical flow fume hoods, horizontal flow fume hoods, and biosafety cabinets. Different types of fume hoods are suitable for different types of experiments to achieve the best protective effect.

Common laboratory fume hood malfunctions and solutions:

1. Fume hood not working: Check if the plug is properly inserted and if the power is on. Also, check if the wiring is damaged and if the fume hood needs to be replaced with a new fan.

2. Poor ventilation: Replacing the filter is the simplest way to solve this problem. Also, check if the fan is working properly and if there are any blockages in the ventilation ducts.

3. Excessive noise from the fume hood: Check if the fan is working properly and ensure there are no foreign objects or debris inside or outside the fume hood.

4. Air leakage from the fume hood: Check if the rubber strip on the fume hood door is aged or damaged. Alternatively, the fume hood may have poor sealing performance, requiring replacement of the sealing strip or repair of leaks.

5. Uneven fume hood: Check if the four corners of the fume hood are balanced. If unbalanced, adjust the casters or use a level to restore the fume hood to its balanced state.
